SYLLABLE JUNCTURES and INFLECTED ENDINGS REVIEW


A syllable juncture is a term used to describe the point at which two syllables join.  Knowing the juncture of syllables helps us learn how to spell words.  Inflected endings for this lesson are -ing and -ed.

The 1st jucture pattern is VCV.  The word hoping fits this pattern and the 1st syllable is closed.  It would be divided as hop*ing.  Sort words with this pattern under VCV.

The 2nd juncture pattern is VCCV.  The word hopping fits this pattern and the 1st syllable is closed.  It would be divided as hop*ping.  Sort words with this pattern under VCCV.

The 3rd juncture pattern is VVCV .  The word cleaning fits this pattern and the first syllable is closed.  It would be divided as clean*ing.  Sort words with this pattern under VVCV.
