ADDING -ION TO BASE WORDS THAT HAVE NO SPELLING CHANGE

General Rule: If a verb ends in two consonants, simply add -ion to change it to a noun. This lesson consists of base words ending in -ct and -ss.   When -ion is added, the word meanings change to "the act or result of" whatever the base word means.  For example:

SUBTRACT - verb, to take away

SUBTRACTION - noun, the act or result of taking away
